Elmwood Merchants Association Active in Our Community:
We’ve been around for more than 100 years, working together to improve the climate for businesses and residents in the Elmwood district. We help solve public safety and planning issues affecting businesses, and organize public events and joint advertising in our district. We publicize our merchant community to both the local residents as well as making the Berkeley community aware of the historic Elmwood District.
Our Mission:
The purpose of Elmwood Merchants Association is to maintain and improve the quality of the Elmwood neighborhood as a community with a diverse mix of residents and businesses, to promote and improve the convenience of shopping, and to have an effective voice in government on matters pertaining to Elmwood businesses. Over the years, we have worked with our city government on matters of parking, traffic, zoning, public safety and overall quality of life issues facing our neighborhood. Our goal is to preserve the integrity of this historic shopping area, keep it vital, while respecting the fact that we are surrounded by a well established, affluent residential neighborhood. Members of the Merchants Association recently were responsible for preserving the future of the Elmwood Theater by working closely with both City officials and the local residents.
Working together, we hope to consistently improve the quality of your shopping experience, and value your suggestions.
